Fujiwaramuro Architects

Osaka, Japan

FujiwaraMuro Architects is an Osaka-based architecture practice founded in 2002 by Shintaro Fujiwara (b. 1974, Osaka) and Yoshio Muro (b. 1974, Nagoya), both graduates of the University of Kinki Faculty of Science and Engineering, Department of Architecture. The studio specializes in small custom-built houses, working primarily in the Kansai and Shikoku regions of Japan, with additional projects in Tokyo and Osaka for stores, offices, and clinics. The practice has produced an extensive body of residential work characterized by inventive spatial responses to constrained urban sites: tight lots, dense neighborhoods, and complex street conditions. Recurring concerns include the manipulation of light through voids, atria, and apertures; the relationship between interior path and urban context; and the precise use of timber, concrete, and steel as structural and surface materials. The studio has been published extensively in Dezeen, ArchDaily, and Designboom.
